Xabi Alonso could be in line for the Bayer Leverkusen managerial job, after the Bundesliga giants reached out to the Spaniard about taking over the reins at the club.
Leverkusen are in dire need to turn around their season following a disastrous start to the 2022/23 campaign, and are set to part ways with current head coach Gerardo Seoane.
According to Talk Sports, Leverkusen are now interested in signing Alonso after being rebuffed by former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel whom they had earlier approached.
The former Real Madrid and Liverpool midfielder is currently without a job after leaving Real Sociedad’s B-team in June this year.

Thomas Tuchel turns down the opportunity to manage Bayer Leverkusen
Meanwhile, former Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel has ruled himself out of the race to replace Gerardo Seoane as Bayer Leverkusen’s next boss, Daily Mail reports.
The German manager had been approached by the Bundesliga club’s hierarchy to succeed Seoane, but Tuchel is seemingly uninterested in the position despite being out of job.
Tuchel was sacked on September 7 in the aftermath of Chelsea's Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb, but the 49-year-old is in no rush to jump back into management.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported a masterclass from Jamal Musiala, as well as a first goal in five games for Sadio Mane, helped Bayern Munich thump hapless Bayer Leverkusen 4-0 at home on Friday.
Musiala scored one and set up two more, leaving the field to a rapturous reception when substituted after 81 minutes.
Asked after the game if the win removes pressure from manager Julian Nagelsmann, Musiala said simply: "The pressure was on us all."
