The Argentine joined Ajax in 2019 for a reported fee of $6.3 million. He became a top centre-back at Ajax. Martinez helped the club win the Johan Cruyff Shield (2019), two Eredivisie titles (2020-21, 2021-22) and the Dutch Cup (2021). He was also named Ajax's player for the 2021-22 season.
