  • Manchester City midfielder Rodri says he is not too surprised by Liverpool’s slump this season
  • Rodri believes the fast pace of English top flight can easily catch up to even the best teams
  • After seven games of the season, Liverpool are already eight points behind the Citizens

It is no surprise that Liverpool are struggling to keep up with the pacesetters in the Premier League, according to Manchester City midfielder Rodri.

Many expected Liverpool and Manchester City to be neck to neck in the 2022/23 campaign as was the case in the last two seasons.

But that has not been the case, and while Manchester City have made a typical strong start, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have struggled.

The Reds are eighth on the log after six games, having only picked up two wins.

The relatively poor start has surprised many, but not Rodri, who believes the nature of the Premier League can leave even the best teams struggling.

Asked if he was surprised by Liverpool’s form, Rodri said as quoted on 90 Min “Only partially,"
"The Premier League level is so high that as soon as you slow down, you lose points. Liverpool are not in crisis, they are just less effective, and the Premier League does not allow you to relax.”

Liverpool’s last game will have some positives as they bounced back from an opening Champions League defeat to Napoli by beating Ajax 2-1.

In the league, however, there is still a lot of work to do, and sections of fans already feel the race for the title could be already over.

Heading into the international break, the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are the clubs that look like genuine title contenders.

Cristiano sent message by Serie A club

Elsewhere, High-flying Serie A side Udinese have sent Cristiano Ronaldo a cheeky message on Instagram asking him to join them.

The club's goalkeeper Marco Silvestri was the first to ask Ronaldo to join him at Udinese before the Serie A club picked the discussion with an amplified message to the Man United attacker.

Bianconeri picked Silverstri's message request by posting an image of Ronaldo alongside the Instagram discussion and added the message: "Come to Udinese Ronaldo."
