Manchester United’s Brandon Williams has come out with a passionate defence of Harry Maguire amid the defender’s struggles at Old Trafford.

Since United suffered a 4-0 humbling at the hands of Brentford, Maguire has been relegated to the bench by Erik Ten Hag, who prefers summer signing Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.

Williams appeared in a recent interview with The Sportsman where he was asked how his teammate Maguire was coping at Manchester United.

What ensued was an interesting statement from Williams, who spent last season on loan at Norwich City as he fiercely defender the embattled Maguire.

"People don’t listen to the outside world. Harry [Maguire] will go into training a hundred per cent every day. Harry will give, whether he’s starting the game, whether he’s not starting the game, one hundred per cent.

"We don't care about the outside world because like I said, the only thing that matters is the opinions on the inside. The opinions on the inside mean the most important.

"If you’re doing well in training, who’s some little idiot sat on Twitter that’s going to tell you that you shouldn’t be starting a game. Who is he? I don't get it. I genuinely don’t get it. Harry is a top fella, top captain, top player."

The 22-year-old went on to tip Maguire to have an overall great career.

Maguire was selected for England’s final squad before the World Cup, despite limited game time at Manchester United in recent weeks.

His selection now means he is eligible for selection for the Nations League games against Italy and Germany during the international break.
