Pep Guardiola who is the gaffer of Premier League champions Manchester City has praised his academy players for their impressive performance on Tuesday night, September 21 in EFL Cup.
Manchester City are through to the next round of the Carabao Cup after thrashing visiting Wycombe 6-1 at the Etohad stadium in which Kevin De Bruyne was among the scorers.
Before the encounter against the lower League side, Pep Guardiola explained that his hands were tied due to the injuries some of his players suffered and had to fall on the academy youngsters.
And to his surprise, these lads did themselves lot of good as Pep Guardiola confirmed that he was impressed with their game against Wycombe.
According to the report on Sky Sports and Guardian, Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne scored the first goal for Manchester City in the 29th minute restoring parity for the Citizens after Hanlan had scored for the visitors in the 22nd minute.
Mahrez netted brace for Manchester City, while the trio of Phil Foden, Torres and and Cole Palmer scored a goal each for Manchester City to get the comfortable win.
While expressing his appreciation to the academy players, Pep Guardiola also saluted Nigerian and British player Adebayo Akinfenwa for his good game against his side.
Pep Guardiola's reaction
"They faced a legend of English football, it was an absolute pleasure to meet him.
"It's not easy to do it but they did very well. We are going to review the game and show them how to solve the problems. But there was not one bad performance."
