Arch rivals AC Milan and Inter Milan have agreed to entirely demolish their iconic Giuseppe Meazza stadium in San Siro with plans to construct a new venue underway.

The Serie A giants approved a project called 'The Cathedral' at the end 2021. The project will now undergo a thorough examination by the public with several meetings arranged.

The stadium, commonly known as the San Siro will be entirely demolished after the Rossoneri and Nerazzuri came to an agreement according to La Gazzetta dello Sport

The current venue has been refurbished a number of times but the clubs agreed to erect an entirely new facility which will also have an entertaining venue.

The teams have shared the stadium for over 70 years and Paolo Scaroni said before that the new facility will bring economic and cultural benefits.

The project's strength is the two club's commitment together for the new Milano stadium. It means increased investments and a common goal to give the city a sports and entertainment district which is alive all year round thanks to events involving both teams and creating jobs for more than 3,500 people.

The new stadium, dubbed "the Cathedral' will bring fans closer to action on the pitch. However, the seats will be reduced from 75,000 to 60,000.

The two clubs are hoping to join top European clubs such as Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Bayern Munich and Juventus in building a modern venue.

Constructed in 1926, San Siro is an iconic football symbol in both Italian and world football having played host to four European Cup finals and several World Cup matches.

The new stadium is expected to cost around €650 million.

Sports Brief earlier reported on Serie A receiving a lucrative offer to host the Supercoppa Final in Saudi Arabia for the next six years under a new format.

In a deal worth €138 million, Serie A winners, runners-up and the two Coppa Italia finalists will square off in a four-team one-legged semis and finals with the winner will play Saudi Super Cup winners.

The money is three times more than what Serie A provides for the competition.
