His sacking took many by surprise, especially considering he had played a prominent role in Chelsea's summer transfer business.

Tuchel's exit came at a time Chelsea had endured a slow start to the new season, dropping points in half of their Premier League outings in the run-up to their Champions League defeat at Zagreb.

Olivier Giroud speaks on Thomas Tuchel's sacking at Chelsea

Giroud, who spent three years at Stamford Bridge, has now admitted that he felt sad after Chelsea dismissed Tuchel.

Speaking to Sky Sports News via Metro UK, the French star noted that Tuchel had made a significant contribution at the west London club during his 19-month spell.

"It’s part of football. It’s sad. I think Thomas has done a great job for Chelsea," the 35-year-old noted.

Giroud swapped Arsenal for Chelsea in 2018 and went on to play an integral role in the Blues' Champions League win in 2021.
