Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona have the shortlist of the most valuable football clubs in the world.

The top 50 list released by Forbes is dominated by the National Football League clubs, with the Dallas Cowboys topping the charts with a valuation of $8 billion.

New England Patriots are second with a valuation of $6.4 billion, while Los Angeles Rams are third ahead of Major League Baseball side New York Yankees, who are tied with the New York Giants.

Interestingly, no football team made the top 10 list, with NBA sides New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors all making the cut.

Real Madrid, Barcelona top list of most valuable clubs

According to the Forbes list, Real Madrid have are the most valuable football club in the world and 13th among the world's most valuable sports teams.

The reigning La Liga and Champions League holders are valued at a whopping $5.1 billion, while rivals Barcelona are second among football teams with a valuation of $5 billion and 15th overall.

Manchester United are the only other football team in the top 20, making the Premier League side the highest-ranked English sporting organisation.

Other football clubs that featured in the top 50 list of the most valuable sports teams in the world include Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Premier League clubs are dominating a list of top 10 clubs with the most expensive squads in the world.

This comes after a massive spending spree by the Premier League's traditional 'big six' during the recent transfer windows.

Manchester City, Chelsea, and the Red Devils headline a list of the clubs with the most expensive squads.

City's current squad is valued at an eyewatering £917m, while that of Manchester United is believed to be worth £863m.
