As the world continues to grieve the demise of Queen Elizabeth II, England and Manchester United legend David Beckham has penned his tribute to Her Majesty, saying he is "truly saddened" by the news.

In a touching Instagram post, the six-time Premier League champion wrote that not only were the British devasted by the news but also people from every corner of the world.

The 47-year-old has met the Queen on several occasions and was appointed an OBE in 2003 during the Queen's Birthday for services to the sport of football. He stated that Her Majesty was an inspiration to all.

How much she inspired us with her leadership. How she comforted us when times were tough. Until her last days she served her country with dignity and grace.

Beckham's special relationship with the Royal Family

Beckham has cultivated a friendly relationship with the Royal Family as he was invited to the weddings of Prince William and Kate and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The former midfielder, who also appeared for Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid expressed his admiration for the Queen during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June this year, calling the British people to celebrate.

Celebrities from all walks of life have been sending their condolences and tributes to the Royal Family as they prepare to lay Her Majesty to rest. In addition, sports stars from around the world have eulogized the Queen on social media, celebrating a life well lived.

Beckham retired from football in 2013 after a glittering career. He appeared 115 times for the Three Lions and scored 17 goals which made him one of the greatest English players of all time.
