Chelsea star Reece James has committed his long-term future with the Blues after the English wingback penned a new five-year contract, with the option of an extra one.

TYalks over a contract renewal have been ongoing for weeks now, with the fresh development ending speculations on a possible exit.

According to the Daily Mail, the new deal will see the 22-year-old pocket a massive £ 250,000 a week, making him the highest-paid defender in the history of Chelsea.

The latest development comes after previous reports which linked James with a move to Real Madrid and Man City.

Reece James reacts to Chelsea's new deal

Speaking after inking his new deal with Chelsea, the England international expressed his delight at continuing at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues academy graduate further extended his gratitude to the fans for supporting him through his development at the west London club.

"I am over the moon with my new contract and I'm thankful for the fans, the new ownership and everyone involved in the club," he said as quoted by Goal.
"I cannot wait to see what the future holds, and I am sure we will have the chance of winning many trophies," he added.

Chelsea suffer back-to-back defeats away defeats as Blues stumble to narrow loss at Southampton

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Chelsea lost their second successive away game this season after a resilient Southampton side beat them 2-1 at the St.Marys Stadium.

Southampton had to do it the hard way by coming from a goal down to record a shock victory over the visitors.

Raheem Sterling put Chelsea in front in the 23rd minute before Romeo Lavia equalised for the Saints five minutes later. Adam Armstrong scored his first goal in this calendar year just before halftime to ensure Southampton got the maximum points.
