Jose Mourinho has lashed out at England players after leaving Bukayo Saka to play their last penalty in their Euro 2020 defeat to Italy At Wembley Stadium over the weekend.

The duo of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford had already missed their spot-kicks and were banking on the 19-year-old to help them stretch the shootouts into sudden deaths.

However, Gianluigi Donnaramma saved the Arsenal youngster's effort and handed the Azzurri their second European Championship in history.

This is also the first time they are playing in the final of the continental championship in history and they will hope to do better in their next outing.

What Jose Mourinho said

Mourinho was however quoted by SunSport and Sport Bible while speaking with talkSport after the crucial game. He said:

"On the decisions of the penalty takers, I think it's hard to leave Saka as the last one.
"I think it's too much for a kid to have everything on his shoulders in this moment, but I don't know, I have to ask that question to Gareth because many times what happens is that players who should be there are not there, players who should be there, they run away from the responsibility."

Manchester United legend Roy Keane was disappointed with Jack Grealish and Raheem Sterling for staying away during the shootouts and this is what Mourinho also echoed.

However, Gareth Southgate has taken responsibility for the defeat after refusing to blame any of his players for what happened on the night.

Jose Mourinho sends an important message to Ronaldo

Legit.ng earlier reported that Jose Mourinho has jokingly told Cristiano Ronaldo he would 'knock' him down if he was playing in the central defensive role.

Both Portuguese superstars will face each other in the Italian League from next season as the former Tottenham Hotspur was unveiled by the Giallorossi earlier this month.

Ronaldo and Mourinho worked together at Real Madrid for three seasons while they won three titles in the process.
