Liverpool scored a dramatic last-second winner to come from behind to claim a crucial win over Newcastle United at Anfield.

It almost looked like it was going to be another one of those days for Liverpool, who went behind when Newcastle’s new signing Isak found his debut goal in the first half.

But Roberto Firmino restored parity in the game in the 61st minute as Newcastle held on for a draw for the remainder of the second half.

But in added time, Fabio Carvalho stepped up when his team needed him the most with a dramatic winner.

How it happened

Liverpoool came into the game at the back of thrashing Bournemouth 9-0 and confidence was fairly high despite a very shaky start to the season.

For Newcastle, their £60m striker Alexander Isak, who got his visa clearance just hours before the clash, was integrated into the squad immediately and he did not disappoint the travelling fans on his debut.

The striker timed his run perfectly as he benefited from a through ball and with one glance of the Liverpool keeper, he smashed it for the opener.

He thought he had a second early in the second half but his goal was ruled out for offside. Five minutes later, Liverpool were level.

It was Roberto Firmino who got the goal as he combined brilliantly with Mohammed Salah to guide the ball past the Newcastle goalkeeper.

Overall, Liverpool were far from their best and Nick Pope only started making considerable saves in the second half.

Despite lacking a cutting edge, credit also needs to go to Klopp’s side for keeping up the pressure until late in the game.

With mere seconds to go, a looping ball in the Newcastle penalty box found Cavalho, who smashed it in via the post, sending the Anfield faithful into wild celebration.

Haaland bags second successive hat trick

In the other game, Erling Haaland stole the headlines once again as he scored his second Premier League hat-trick to inspire City to victory.

The former Borussia Dortmund hotshot needed just 12 minutes to score the opener, prodding home a Phil Foden cross from close range to make it 1-0.

The Norway international doubled the advantage in the 23rd minute with a tap-in from close range, thanks to another Foden assist on the edge of the six-yard box.

Haaland completed his hat-trick in the 38th minute, nodding home a header across the face of goal from about a yard out.
