  • Idah Peterside has disclosed that he will head to court if he is disqualified from contesting the NFF presidency position
  • The former Nigerian international, who is based in South Africa, is among about 15 contenders for the coveted seat
  • Idah stated that it would be unfair if he is barred from the elections, which will hold on September 30

A former Super Eagles goalkeeper Idah Peterside has stated that he will take up legal action if he is disqualified from contesting the presidency position of the Nigeria Football Federation.

Idah made this known during a live radio programme with Sports Salsa as reports emerged that some contestants might be disqualified before Election Day.

September 30 has been set aside for the Annual General Assembly as Amaju Pinnick’s second term as president will come to an end.

In his reaction to the rumour that some candidates will be disqualified, Idah said, as per Punch:

“We will go to court. It wouldn’t make sense because when I played for Nigeria they did not screen me.
“When I playing for Nigeria they said I was a Nigerian and based on the fact that I was born here and I have a Nigerian passport that should be the qualification, except they have a crime against me or I have committed a crime that does not qualify me for the position.
“Except for those, there is no reason to disqualify me and I don’t care where I am living because that shouldn’t be the criteria, as long as I have a Nigerian passport.”

Victor Ikpeba claims Pinnick is not ready to relinquish power

Meanwhile, former Nigerian international Daniel Amokachi has claimed that the outgoing president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, still has plans to retain his position.

Pinnick, whose second term is billed to end by September 30, said he would not be seeking reelection.

He is the first Nigerian to hold the position for two terms, but former Super Eagles star Daniel Amokach who is the special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on sports, claims Pinnick is still interested in the NFF position.
