  • Kylian Mbapppe failed to convert a glorious opportunity during Paris Saint-Germain's clash with Monaco in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday evening
  • Lionel Messi had fired a shot at goal which hit the post, with the rebound falling on the French star, who also hit the post
  • PSG saw their perfect start to the season slip away as Monaco left Parc Des Princes with a point

Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe shocked the world when he missed an open chance to score from less than six yards out.

Mbappe has built a reputation for himself as a proven goal poacher and it, therefore, came as a surprise when his effort only hit the post and agonizingly went back into play.

It was a tough night for PSG as a resolute Monaco side frustrated their efforts for the better part of the evening. The game ended with a one-all scoreline, bringing to an end Christophe Galtier's perfect start to the season.

Neymar scored from the penalty spot in the second half to extend his fine run of form this season. The Brazilian's goal cancelled out Kevin Volland's effort in the first half.

Just before half-time, Mbappe and Lionel Messi combined outside the penalty area, with the latter unleashing a ferocious shot. Monaco's goalkeeper Alex Nubel was well-beaten but was grateful to see the Argentine's shot hit the post.

The rebound fell kindly to Mbappe, who had an open net gaping in front of him with Nubel still dealing with the aftermath of Messi's cross.

However, and rather surprisingly, Mbappe failed to sort his feet out and could only ram the post once again as Monaco survived.

How Monaco vs PSG played out

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Paris Saint-Germain have dropped points for the first time this season after they were held to a 1-1 draw with Monaco.

The reigning French champions had won all three of their opening matches, with the last outing ending in a huge 7-1 win over Lille.

PSG were hoping to extend the winning run to four matches when they hosted Monaco at Parc des Princes on Sunday evening, August 28.
