  • Jose Mourinho showed Angel Gomes tough love during their spell at Old Trafford and the Ex-Manchester United prospect has not forgotten about the treatment
  • The United academy graduate became the youngest player to represent the club since Duncan Edwards in 1953 after replacing Wayne Rooney in the 88th minute against Crystal Palace in 2017

England attacker Angel Gomes has recalled how iconic manager Jose Mourinho gave him the hairdryer treatment during their time at Manchester United.

Gomes, who currently plays for French side Lille, rose through the United academy before he was handed his Premier League debut at the tender age of 16 years and 263 days old by Mourinho.

Despite being handed his dream debut by the Portuguese tactician, the 21-year-old also recounted how an encounter with Mourinho left him in tears.

"We were at the dinner table and he's come around speaking to everyone. He then looks at me and says, 'I am f*cked with you!'
"At the time he was having a laugh with everyone, so I thought he was joking with me. I asked why and he brought up my performance from the day before.
"He must have thought I'd played sh*t. I didn't think I played that badly but he's the big boss, so if he thought I'd played bad, I'd played bad.
"He was saying, 'You were doing this and doing that but you should have done this and that...' And this was in front of the whole squad as well. I'd had bollockings in my time but not from the big boss. I just wasn't expecting it. I was taken aback.
"He eventually finished shouting and carried on with what he was doing. I was stuck to my seat. Eventually, some of the lads came over and said, 'don't worry, just ignore him. He's trying to get a reaction from you. This is how he is.'
"I was only young so in my head, I was thinking, 'F*ck, he hates me.' I went back to my room and rang my dad. I was nearly crying."

Angel Gomes stunned by Leo Messi's touching gesture

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Lille Forward Angel Gomes was left stunned after realizing Lionel Messi actually wanted to swap shirts with him.

The defending Ligue 1 champions were thumped 5-1 by Paris Saint Germain on Sunday, February 6 at the Stade Pierre Mauroy, in a game where Messi was the star of the show.

Messi got only his second Ligue 1 goal since signing for PSG, although he also set up Presnel Kimpembe for a goal and saw his curling free-kick hit the post on Sunday.
