Jadon Sancho put the hosts in front, with Marcus Rashford doubling the lead shortly after the interval.

Egyptian star Mohammed Salah headed in a goal late on, but it was not enough to mount a comeback.

Liverpool had more possession and shots, but there was no indication that they would upset United for large parts of the game.

Speaking after the game, Klopp said:

“We should have won this game, I know it sounds ridiculous but that is how I saw it.
“My emotions? We lost, which says everything about my emotions. Very disappointed about the result, that’s it.”
“I am concerned about our situation, but that is how it is. We prepare for Bournemouth and Newcastle now."

At some point in the game, Klopp took off Naby Keita, which now means he is without nine first team players through injury.

Liverpool couldn’t cope

In the same interview, the Liverpool gaffer also admitted his side could not cope with the early pressure from United.

“If you saw both games, the differences couldn’t be bigger,” he said. “It was a game which was 100% clear what United would do.
