Neymar has penned a short and sweet tribute for his Paris Saint-Germain teammate, Lionel Messi, on Instagram.

The two football stars have been best friends since their time together with Barcelona and have enjoyed a close bond since then.

The pair linked up for the first time in the summer of 2013 when Neymar sealed a stunning transfer to Camp Nou from Santos.

Their on-field bromance was cut short four years later after Neymar decided to dump Barca for a record move to PSG.

Fortunately for him, Messi joined him in the French capital last summer after the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner ended his 20-year reign with Barcelona.

And in an apparent move aimed at celebrating their friendship, Neymar has taken to Instagram to pay tribute to Messi.

The Brazilian star shared a photo of him with the Argentine ace in which they were conversing during PSG's 7-1 win over Lille.

In his message to Messi, Neymar hailed the Barca legend as "a friend" and "an idol", thanking football for bringing them together.

"Idol and friend. Thank you football," Neymar captioned his Instagram post.
