Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has revealed that his move to Al Ain during his prime was the best career decision he made.

Gyan shocked fans in 2011 when he left Sunderland to sign for the United Arab Emirates club.

However, according to Gyan, it is a move that benefited Ghanaians as he made investments that created employment for the youth.

Asamoah Gyan also disclosed he was persuaded to make the move by Sunderland despite having a good season in his first campaign in England.

“Sunderland needed money at that time, they persuaded me to move to Al Ain," Gyan continued.
“I asked them if the fans were going to be happy I’m leaving. They said they knew how to deal with the fans."

The 36-year-old enjoyed a successful spell at Al Ain, winning the UAE Pro League three times.

He later moved to China to join Shanghai SIPG, where he became one of the highest paid players in Africa.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Asamoah Gyan has blamed persistent injuries to his ill-fated spell at Ghana Premier League outfit Legon Cities.

The 36-year-old struggled following his return to the Ghanaian topflight, playing five matches and not scoring a goal for the Royals in the 2020/21 season.
