A bizarre situation is brewing at the troubled Cape Town City.

The club is rumoured to be pondering going after its former player Hugo Marques for a breach of contract in the weirdest of ways.

According to The Citizen, the Angolan international goalkeeper allegedly lied to the Cityzens for suddenly asking that the club release him from his contract after a match because of a serious reason.

A source close to the club supposedly said to the publication:

“He left the club because he claimed his father was critically sick in Portugal and he wanted to be close to him. He said anything could happen. When the club offered to give him some time off, he asked that he be released because he would want to play for a small team in Portugal to keep fit so that when he came back he would not be far behind in terms of fitness.

“The club was shocked when he turned up at Petro Luanda. But it has since emerged that he had been promised big money there but the club was not willing to buy him out of his contract at City.”

It was then reported that this angered chairman John Comitis, who is said to be considering legal action against Marques for his alleged dishonesty in getting out of a binding legal agreement, his contract.
