Former captain of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan, has blamed his substitution for Ghana's defeat to Egypt in the finals of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations.

Gyan, who was Ghana's brightest player at the tournament in Angola, was replaced as the Black Stars trailed Egypt with five minutes left at the Estádio 11 de Novembro.

In an interview on the Dentaa Show, Gyan disclosed that he had a premonition he would score in the final minute of that match.

"Egypt scored in the 85th minute and after that they looked at me and said Asamoah is it going to happen, I told them don't worry it will come. When I told them don't worry, there was a change at that time and when I turned it was the number three and I was coming off," added Gyan.
"I was coming off for a defender, Eric Addo. I was like in the final, we were trailing by a goal and I was even the best player so how do you take off a striker for a defender. I was even confused.
"Eric Addo, who came on had a great chance and he missed."

Mohammed Gedo, who came on as a second half substitute, scored the only goal as the Pharoahs won the title for a seventh time.

Asamoah Gyan has explained why he struggled at Legon Cities

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Asamoah Gyan has blamed persistent injuries to his ill-fated spell at Ghana Premier League outfit Legon Cities.

The 36-year-old struggled following his return to the Ghanaian topflight, playing five matches and not scoring a goal for the Royals in the 2020/21 season.

In an interview on the Dentaa Show, the ex-Ghana captain stated that niggling injuries stopped him from enjoying his second stint in the Ghana Premier League.
