In an attempt to reduce their wage bill, the Barcelona board asked Alba, Busquets and Pique to accept a wage cut.
But La Liga made it clear that even if Pique accepts another pay cut, it still won’t help the Catalan giants to register new signings or make space in their salary cap.
According to Marca, La Liga's wage rules mean that the money a player has agreed to defer can’t be included in the wage cap if that individual has already deferred wages in the past.
Pique has already deferred over €30m in wages, which is why even if he agrees to more pay cuts, that amount can’t be included in Barca’s salary cap.
This same situation also affects Alba and Busquets, which is why both have also declined more salary cuts.
