As reported by Goal at the time, Griezmann returned to Atletico on a two-year loan deal with a mandatory €40 million option to buy included in the deal.
The deal states that the Rojiblancos will have to purchase the player for €40 million if he features in 50% of their games, with a minimum of 45 minutes between the games, across the two seasons at Atletico.

Griezmann played in 82.5% of the club’s matches last season, meaning Atletico would have to leave him on the bench for the current season to avoid paying the mandatory fee.
Barca Universal reports that Atletico are also not keen to pay €40 million for the player.
The club are currently trying to find ways to get this figure lowered. Griezmann did not start Atletico’s opener against Getafe but did come off the bench to score a goal for the club. With Alvaro Morata back in the squad after his load at Chelsea, Griezmann’s chances to play may be even more limited this season.
