Swallows FC will have to answer for tardiness before a Premier Soccer League disciplinary committee.

PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu has charged the club with delaying the start of their match against Cape Town City in Dobsonville last week.

According to TimesLIVE, Majavu said:

“Swallows stand charged with delaying the start of their fixture against City and also amending their team sheet without notifying the opposing team and match officials as prescribed in terms of the rules. They will appear on Thursday at 4.30pm.”

Soccer Laduma reported that The Birds original team sheet included Nicholus Lukhubeni before the match. However, when it was meant to start, Kwanda Mngonyama was in the starting lineup instead of Lukhubeni.

The Cityzens motioned to the match commissioner that they would play the game under protest. The contest itself was a memorable one, boasting the most goals in a match thus far this season with five as Swallows won 3-2.

Tshediso Patjie opened the scoring in the 16th minute, before he doubled the lead seven minutes later in the 23rd minute. Venezuelan international Darwin Nunez threw the visitors a lifeline by pulling one back in the 31st minute, with Khanyiso Mayo levelling matters in the 62nd minute.

Just as it appeared that there was no longer drama in the encounter, the hosts were awarded an injury-time penalty, which Siboniso Mtshali converted in the 92nd minute.

As reported by Sports Brief, league prosecutor Zola Majavu announced last night that the Cityzens had been charged for their sponsorship agreement with the financial institution.

This was because the PSL alleges that the club did not gain approval, as the deal would have conflicted with the league's sponsorship by Nedbank.
