Manchester City have finally confirmed the signing of Spain's Under-21s defender Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht.

Gomez has been a top summer transfer target for the reigning Premier League champions as Pep Guardiola pushes to bolster his defence.

According to Metro UK, City have been shopping for a left-back since the departure of Oleksandr Zinchenko, who joined Arsenal in a £32m deal earlier this summer.

The publication reports that the Citizens were strongly interested in signing Marc Cucurella but pulled out of negotiations due to Brighton's asking price.

The Spaniard eventually sealed a move to Chelsea for £62m, forcing City to enter the market for alternatives.

It is understood that the development forced the Manchester outfit to set their sights on Sergio Gomez.

And after weeks of negotiations, City have finally landed the signing of Gomez, who has swapped Anderlecht for the EPL giants.

City confirmed the signing of Gomez on Tuesday, August 16, with the youngster taking the No.21 shirt at the Etihad Stadium.

"Our new number 21 ," Man City tweeted while announcing the arrival of Gomez.

Gomez is known for his impressive assist tally, with the defender bagging 12 in 34 Belgian top-flight games last season.
