  • Liverpool's slow start to life in the Premier League continued unabated following their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace
  • It is the second successive draw the Reds have recorded on the back of their drama-filled 2-2 stalemate with Fulham
  • The results mean Liverpool, 19-time Premier League champions, are four points adrift of current league leaders and defending champions Man City

Football fans and Premier League lovers have identified Sadio Mane's absence as the reason behind Liverpool's slow start to the 2022-23 campaign.

Sadio Mane ended his six-year relationship with Liverpool this summer following his £35.1 million transfer to Bayern Munich.

Following the departure of Mane, the Reds moved swiftly to replace the Senegal international with former Benfica marksman Darwin Nunez for a club-record fee.

Mane has since hit the ground running in Germany, scoring on his competitive debut as the Bavarians won the DFL Super Cup before adding another goal on his maiden Bundesliga outing as Bayern crashed UEFA Europa League holders Frankfurt.

Despite not getting on the scoresheet, the 2021 AFCON winner put in a splendid performance as Bayern continued their perfect start to the campaign.

While the 31-year-old and Bayern continue to enjoy success in Germany, his former employers have had contrasting fortunes to the start of the season.

Liverpool are winless in their opening two matches in the Premier League - clawing back from the jaws of defeat to salvage a 2-2 draw against Fulham before being held by Crystal Palace to a 1-1 stalemate at Anfield on Monday, August 15.

Mane's replacement, Darwin Nunez, has had a mixed reaction to his Liverpool career - scoring against Fulham before he received his marching orders on a frustrating outing against Palace.

On the back of Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Palace, most football fans are of the opinion that the Reds are rueing the absence of Mane.

Below are some of the comments sampled from Twitter:

@PoojaMedia tweeted:

"Mane could've done something in those 2 games. They will miss him & Liverpool will suffer for it."

@robertmarawa added:

"They probably WON'T talk about the effect of the absence of the Senegalese superstar Sadio Mané."

@WelBeast sarcastically equated Liverpool's recent plight to Man United:

"Liverpool without Sadio Mane is like Manchester United with Ronaldo, Sancho, Maguire, Dalot, McTominay and Rashford."

@SirLeoBDasilva insisted:

"Liverpool miss Mane a whole lot. He was good on and off the ball."

@viewwsss aimed a dig at Liverpool's decision to swap Nunez for Mane:

"If you ever feel useless remember Liverpool sacked Sadio Mane to buy Darwin Nunez. I rest my case."

Mane reveals why he joined Bayern

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Sadio Mane is feeling very excited after completing his move to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in a deal worth £35.1m.

The 30-year-old forward ends his six-year relationship with Liverpool where he formed a formidable partnership with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firminho in the Reds' attack.

Mane has now disclosed he immediately saw himself playing for Bayern Munich immediately his agent told him of the Bavarians’ interest in signing him this summer Daily Mail reports.
