Former referee and current television pundit Andile Ncobo has explained why the "wrong" player was shown a yellow card in the match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.

Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana caused a foul and penalty after bringing down Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile in the box. However, Zitha Kwinika, who was around five metres behind the action, was shown the yellow card, suggesting that it was a case of mistaken identity.

However, "Mr. Spot-On" Ncobo explained on SuperSport's 'Extra Time' magazine show that Ngezana's foul was not worthy of a yellow card regardless of who it was shown to, but because of how Kwinika reacted to the call by Gomes.

Ngcobo added:

"The player, Kwinika, showed dissent by both action and words towards the referee for his decision. He said something. We are not going to deliberate... he said something worthy of a caution.

"When he [Kwinika] speaks to the referee, as he points to the [penalty] mark, look at his actions... he has been identified by Gomes for showing dissent, and not Ngezana for causing the foul. He shows dissent by action, and later, by words."

A farce summed up Kaizer Chiefs' terrible 4-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday afternoon in the DStv Premiership.

As reported by Sports Brief, Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika was wrongly shown a yellow card by referee Victor Gomes after Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile was fouled in the box, resulting in a penalty the Namibian converted to make the scoreline 2-0 at that point.

This card should have been brandished in Siyabonga Ngezana's direction, who was the actual culprit and had been at fault for the hosts' first goal of the match, too.
