  • Arsenal are looking for back-to-back wins in their opening 2 games of the new Premier League season
  • The Gunners host Leicester City in a game which they are heavy favorites to win
  • Mikel Arteta’s men beat Crystal Palace 2-0 in a comprehensive performance eight days ago

Arsenal host Leicester City at the Emirates on Saturday, August 13 in an interesting Premier League encounter as Mikel Arteta aims to build on a good start to the league campaign.

After a decent preseason that ended with the Gunners unbeaten, Mikel Arteta made the best possible start to the campaign on August 5, beating Crystal Palace 2-0.

Leicester, on the other hand, threw away a lead in their first game as they were held to a 2-2 draw by a determined Brentford.

While Arsenal have done well to bolster their squad in the summer, Leicester have done the opposite, as the Foxes are the only side in Europe not to have made a signing in this transfer window.

This means Brendan Rodgers will have to make the best out of the same squad he has season, albeit with some absentees including Kasper Schmeichel, who recently left the Foxes to join Nice in Ligue 1.

The likes of Takehiro Tomiyasu, Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira, who were all absent for the Palace game, are making great progress towards regaining full fitness to become available for selection.

Kieran Tierney, a Manchester City target, made a cameo appearance for the Palace game, and could feature against the Foxes.

The only notable absentee for Arteta will be Reiss Nelson, who is set to be out for months after sustaining a serious injury.

It is yet to be seen whether the Arsenal boss will integrate Marquinhos into the first team, although the Brazilian has had some playing time with the Under-21s.

Here is Arsenal’s possible starting XI

Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Party, Xhaka; Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli; Jesus

Leicester

The good news for Leicester fans is that the club is closing in on their first summer signing, goalkeeper Alex Smithies, who will be a direct replacement for Schmeichel.

He is however unlikely to be named in the matchday squad and Danny Ward is set to continue between the sticks.

Despite having the same squad, Brendan Rodgers confirmed in the latest press conference that his side did not have any fresh injury concerns, with Harvey Barnes progressing nicely from a knee injury. Ricardo Pereira, on the other hand, is out for months with an Achilles problem.

Here is Leicester’s possible starting XI vs Arsenal

Ward; Fofana, Amartey, Evans; Castagne, Ndidi, Tielemans, Justin; Maddison, Dewsbury-Hall; Vardy
