"He's really important, you have seen from the first day I'm here, I'm really happy with him, I don't want to lose him, he's definitely in our plans at Manchester United," Ten Hag told BBC Sport.

Rashford is currently entering the final 12 months of his contract at United, and his recent struggles in a red shirt has sparked reports he could be finally ready to leave his boyhood club.

Last season, the forward only managed four goals in 25 Premier League appearances, a run of form that saw him temporarily lose his place in the England squad.

He was given the nod to start in United’s first game of the league season which was a nightmare 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Ten Hag looking ahead for Brentford game

United face Brentford in their next game on Saturday, August 13, and Ten Hag will be expecting a reaction from the Brighton loss.

The Dutchman however confirmed Anthony Martial and defender Victor Lindelof will miss Saturday’s trip to London, although Cristiano Ronaldo was a strong contender to start.

"He (Ronaldo) has had a good training week," added Ten Hag
. "He has had two half games now [including pre-season]. We will see tomorrow."

United interested in Mauro Icardi

Elsewhere, Manchester United have reached out to Mauro Icardi’s stunning wife Wanda Nara about a potential move for the Argentine striker in stunning new reports.

Icardi is among the players in the Paris Saint Germain camp who have been told to look for other clubs, and is seen as surplus to requirements in Paris.

Wanda has been representing Icardi for years despite their tumultuous relationship, and has been receiving several calls about transfer offers in recent weeks.
