  • Alexis Sanchez says a former teammate at Inter Milan convinced him to play in the Ligue 1
  • The Chilean has experience playing in England, Spain and France
  • He signed a one year deal with Olympique de Marseille after leaving Inter Milan by mutual consent

Alexis Sanchez has revealed young Lucien Jefferson Agoumé was a factor in his decision to join Marseille after leaving Inter Milan.

Sanchez, 33, is set to be a Marseille player for the next one year after Inter Milan terminated his contract.

He was unveiled as a Marseille player on Wednesday, August 10, and in his very first remarks as a player for the French club, he opened up on his move.

"Playing in the Champions League is always great.” Sanchez said as quoted on the Ligue 1 website
Playing in France is a personal challenge. I've played in Italy, Spain and England. I don't know if you know (his Inter teammate) Lucien Agoumé, but he talked to me a lot about OM. I said to myself why not come here.".

Agoumé, a midfielder, joined Inter Milan in 2019, the same year Sanchez was loaned to the club from Manchester United.

Both players were part of Antoni Conte’s squad that won the Scudetto in the 2019/2020 campaign.

Sanchez further hailed Marseille as a big club, adding that he was at the club “to win”.

They're the only French club to have won the Champions League and were French champions about 10 years ago. I'm here to win," said the Chile international, who will bring his top-level experience to the squad's UEFA Champions League group stage campaign.” He went on.

Marseille, under the guidance of manager Igor Tudor, made a statement of intent on Sunday, August 7 by beating Stade de Reims 4-1 in their league opener.

Sanchez could make his debut for his side over the weekend when Marseille travel to Brest, but he admitted he was not exactly 100% match fit.

The last time he played in a football match was on May 15 for Inter.

Sanchez almost suffers freak accident

Hours earlier, Sanchez nearly suffered an injury without kicking a ball during his first appearance in Marseille, where he is set to be presented as the French club’s new player.

Everything seems to be going as planned for Sanchez, but it almost got derailed in bizarre fashion if a video shared by @GFFN online is anything to go by.

Clad in a Marseille shirt, Sanchez stormed the streets of the city to be received by fans, who turned up by their hundreds to greet the 33-year old former Arsenal and Manchester United star.
