  • Manchester United transfer target Adrien Rabiot once played for cross-town rivals Man City during his formative years
  • The 27-year-old Frenchman featured for City's academy but his stint with the reigning Premier League champions lasted for only six months back in 2008
  • Rabiot has appeared on the summer wishlist of United, who have reportedly reached an agreement with Juventus for the services of the midfielder for a fee of around £15 million

Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of securing the services of French midfielder Adrien Rabiot to shore up the team's deficiency in the 'engine room'.

The former Paris Saint-Germain player is said to have agreed on personal terms with the Red Devils and is now set to leave Juventus, where he is considered surplus to requirements after spending the last three years with the Bianconerri.

But what is less talked about is the half-a-year the 27-year-old Frenchman spent with Manchester City back in 2008.

As a teenager, Adrien Rabiot spent six months playing for Manchester City's academy after he was scouted by the Cityzens, aged 13.

Explaining why his time with the reigning Premier League champions lasted only six months, Rabiot hinted there was a breach in agreement by the English side.

“During the last entry course at Clairefontaine, Manchester City recruiters were present,” he said. “They told my mum they were interested in my profile. We made the decision to go to England."
“Everything was going well, but after six months, the club did not respect certain agreements, so my mother said ‘Stop’ and we went home.”

But in a contrasting response Manchester City, claim Rabiot's agent Veronique - who doubles as his mother - wanted assurances which would have seen them breach FIFA rules about foreign youth players at the time, reports SportBIBLE.

The French midfielder went on to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2010 and two years later, he was promoted to the first team by Carlo Ancelotti after impressing in the youth system.

Why Rabiot's mum is considered 'difficult' explained

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that if recent transfer rumours are anything to go by, Adrien Rabiot will soon become a Manchester United player.

The French midfielder is said to have agreed on personal terms with United and is now set to leave Juventus after three years.

The piece of news has been received with a lot of backlash from the club's ardent supporters. While many argue that Rabiot is not really an improvement on the choices Erik ten Hag has at the moment, others are worried about the supposed toxicity of his agent.
