Former Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has revealed what transpired prior to his sacking as Chelsea boss last year.

Lampard was relieved of his duties after 18 months in charge in January last year after a spate of poor performances. His place was taken by Thomas Tuchel, who immediately guided Chelsea to a top-four finish and Champions League victory.

The Chelsea legend has now attributed his dismissal to a breakdown in communication between him and his superiors, as Daily Mail reports.

At the end of my time at Chelsea, I lost communication with important people above me and I should have tried to keep more.

Lampard managed to guide Chelsea to a top-four finish and the FA Cup final in his first season in charge. He did this despite the club facing a transfer ban and still suffering from the loss of its best player, Eden Hazard.

But his second season wasn't as promising, leading to the then-owner Roman Abramovich cracking the whip on Chelsea's all-time top-scorer.

The 44-year-old was appointed as Everton's manager last season, where he was involved in a nail-biting relegation battle.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea and RB Leipzig have agreed on a fee of around £25million, including add-ons for Werner, who will have a medical on Tuesday before the move is confirmed.

Werner swapped Leipzig for Chelsea for a fee of £47.5million back in 2020. His two-year spell with the Blues yielded 23 goals and set up a further 21 in 89 appearances.
