The rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo is so deep-rooted that even their closest family members are not afraid to take stands.

Ronaldo's sister, Katia Aveiro, was spotted by social media users agreeing with a post that ridiculed Messi's bicycle kick in Ligue One.

Messi was in action for Paris Saint-Germain in the season's opening game against Clermont when he sent out an early indication to his rivals. The Argentine was second-best to none as he scored two goals and conjured up a wonderful assist.

But it was his second goal of the night that got fans talking. The former Barcelona captain received the ball from his compatriot Leandro Paredes and lifted the ball over the Clermont goalkeeper with his back turned to goal.

Ronaldo's fans were quick to downplay the goal, comparing it to Ronaldo's marvellous effort against Juventus in the Champions League a couple of seasons ago.

One Instagram user wrote,

Ronaldo's sister responded to this post with clapping emojis, clearly indicating that her brother's effort was miles better than Messi's.

At the same time, Sports Brief had earlier reported that Lionel Messi's wife, Antonella Roccuzzo, couldn't help but comment on Cristiano Ronaldo's partner Georgina Rodriguez's stunning social media post.

Rodriguez had uploaded a short clip of her promoting a clothing brand called Alo Yoga.

Roccuzzo commented with some three fire emojis below the post, in an apparent signal that she was left gobsmacked by what she saw.
