Mbulelo 'Oldjohn' Mabizela has a bone to pick with South Africa's football media.

The former Bafana Bafana, Orlando Pirates and Tottenham Hotspur defender believes that some journalists within that sector were out to destroy him during what was a career that promised so much but did not deliver due to disciplinary issues.

According to The Citizen, he said during an interview on Marawa Sports Worldwide with Robert Marawa:

“It is hard to explain because it got so much and I wondered why I was crucified so much. I couldn’t understand – why me? It disturbed me a lot. Some would write about hearsays and they would not consult me.

"The problem was the manner in which it was brandished by the media, it was as though they wanted to finish me off even though I made mistakes, they degraded me and tarnished my image. It was something that did not sit well with me.”

Mabizela, known for being outspoken, recently lashed out at players in the DStv Premiership, as per IOL. He said that the quality of football was of such a low standard that he did not bother to switch on the television to watch.

Orlando Pirates midfield maestro Vincent Pule has survived a hijacking and kidnapping incident that happened in Johannesburg on Sunday night.

As reported by Sports Brief, Pule was driving in his black BMW when the incident happened, according to unconfirmed reports. This comes after Pule said he hoped for an injury-free season after his 2021/22 campaign was hampered by various setbacks.

Tragically, former Bidvest Wits and Zimbabwean international player Charles Yohane was murdered during a hijacking in February.
