Mbulelo 'Oldjohn' Mabizela has a bone to pick with South Africa's football media.
The former Bafana Bafana, Orlando Pirates and Tottenham Hotspur defender believes that some journalists within that sector were out to destroy him during what was a career that promised so much but did not deliver due to disciplinary issues.
According to The Citizen, he said during an interview on Marawa Sports Worldwide with Robert Marawa:
“It is hard to explain because it got so much and I wondered why I was crucified so much. I couldn’t understand – why me? It disturbed me a lot. Some would write about hearsays and they would not consult me.

"The problem was the manner in which it was brandished by the media, it was as though they wanted to finish me off even though I made mistakes, they degraded me and tarnished my image. It was something that did not sit well with me.”
Mabizela, known for being outspoken, recently lashed out at players in the DStv Premiership, as per IOL. He said that the quality of football was of such a low standard that he did not bother to switch on the television to watch.
