The concept of a Kaizer Chiefs women's team could become reality before long.

This is going by what the club's marketing director Jessica Motaung said during SuperSport's recent coverage of Banyana Banyana's arrival at the OR Tambo International Airport following their momentous 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations victory in Morocco.

Speaking to anchor Thomas Mlambo, Motaung said:

"This is something we have been talking about for some time. Being around the Banyana team has inspired me to say that we as a brand would be doing the country and the continent a disservice if we do not provide a platform to nurture young women's talent, allowing them to showcase themselves with the Chiefs brand.

Motaung was recently appointed to CAF's Organising Committee for Women Football Standing Committee from 2022-2024. In 2021, the continent's football governing body issued a sweeping ultimatum that teams could be barred from African club competitions if they did not have a women's team by the end of this year.

Last week, Royal AM launched a women's team as momentum for wider professionalisation of the game increased. Mamelodi Sundowns were crowned the inaugural winners of the CAF Women's Champions League at the end of last year.
