FootballJurgen Klopp Leaps to Defence of Underfire Striker Darwin Nunez After ‘Quiet Game’ Against Salzburg
- Jurgen Klopp has provided a shield for underfire striker Darwin Nunez following his sub-par performance against Red Bull Salzburg
- Klopp's charges stumbled to a one-nil loss to the Austrian Bundesliga side in their final pre-season fixture
- Nunez will have another opportunity to redeem his image when Liverpool plays Man City in the Premier League's curtain raiser - Community Shield on Saturday, July 30
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has jumped to the defence of Darwin Nunez after the Reds suffered defeat in their last pre-season game against Red Bull Salzburg.
Nunez, who mustered four goals in Liverpool's comprehensive win over RB Leipzig, was handed a starting role in Liverpool's final preparatory game on Wednesday, July 27.
Despite putting in a decent shift leading the Reds attack, the 23-year-old was not at his lethal best as he struggled to impose himself against the defenders of Salzburg.
He was hurled off at halftime as Jurgen Klopp's men suffered a one-nil loss despite having the lion's share of possession.

Reacting after the game, Jurgen Klopp admitted Nunez would need a better support system in order to flourish.
"Darwin was much too often alone. Everybody dropped, everybody was involved in the build-up but too wide and we could only pass the ball to Darwin in the box." Klopp said via the club's official website.
"He had his moments and nearly scored, but he needs much more support around him. You keep other players busy that they cannot focus on him."
"So many things. The second half, imagine now Darwin would have been there in the box, that would have helped as well. It is like it is – doesn’t feel great, but we take it and go from here."

FootballJurgen Klopp tips club to win 2022-23 Premier League title
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp recently courted criticism from his own fans after claiming the 2022/2023 Premier League title would probably go to Manchester City once again.
The Merseyside club were narrowly pipped to the title last season by City, who came from 2-0 down to beat Aston Villa 3-2 in the final game of the campaign.
Ahead of the upcoming new season, City will now look to win a third consecutive title, something which has only been achieved by Sir Alex Ferguson between 2007 and 2009.
