Manchester City further consolidated their position on the Premier League table after beating Leicester City 2-0 at the King Power Stadium.

A goal each from Benjamin Mendy and Gabriel Jesus were all the Citizens needed to claim maximum points against one of their toughest rivals.

Pep Guardiola's men are now closer to winning their third title in four seasons as they remain at the summit of the table with 74 points after 31 games.

Manchester United are the closest to them but they trail the log-leaders with 17 points, though, they have two games in hand.

It wasn't very easy for City in the early minutes of the game as most of their efforts were neutralised by the Foxes.

The Etihad Stadium side had an opportunity to take the lead in the opening half but the goal was ruled out for offside and till the end of the first stanza, none of the two teams got close.

Brendan Rodgers men on the other hand maintain their five points gap over Chelsea who also lost to struggling West Bromwich Albion earlier this weekend.

With the current standing, the Foxes will play in the Champions League next term, but they must ensure they keep the momentum until the end of the season.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Africa's most expensive player Victor Osimhen was on target for Napoli in their 4-3 triumph over Crotone in their Serie A clash at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

The 22-year-old recorded his name on the scores sheet in the 22nd minute after converting Lorenzo Insigne's cross from the left side of the 18-yeard box from close range.

Coach Gennaro Gattuso's men were in control of possession in the early minutes of the game and they had all the time to spring passes across the opponent's danger zone.
