Former Nigerian international Garba Lawal has applauded former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh years after they both retired from the national team.

Lawal, 48, played for the Nigerian senior national team between 1997 and 2006, featuring in 57 matches and scoring six goals.

Oliseh, on the other hand, played in the defensive midfield role between 1993 and 2002, scoring two goals in 54 matches.

The pair were part of the Dream Team that won gold at the football tournament during the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.

In a special delivery podcast anchored by former goalkeeper Emmanuel Babayaro and Mathew Edafe, partner with digital sports studio ATHLST, Lawal admitted that Oliseh was a great passer of the ball.

He also stated that the ‘no nonsense’ defensive midfielder was one player who disliked losing a game.

Lawal said:

“He is another good passer of the ball; very strong and he doesn’t want to lose. He doesn’t want to be a loser and he’s a good guy too.”

Also, Lawal has stated that Jay-Jay Okocha was an exceptional player and someone he loved to play with during their time in the national team.

“He’s an exceptional player. He’s everything. He’s magic. When you Jay-Jay in your team, some players won’t like it, but some fans like it, some coaches won’t like the way he plays.”
