FootballOrlando Pirates Legend Edward "Magents" Motale Backs Richard Ofori for Orlando Pirates Captaincy
- Orlando Pirates great Happy Jele has left the club going into the new season without a permanent captain
- New Buccaneers coach Jose Riveiro is expected to name the team's new leader in the coming days
- With several candidates being mooted for this privilege, legend Edward "Magents" Motale has named his preferred choice
If it was Edward "Magents" Motale's decision to make, Ghanaian international Richard Ofori would become the new Orlando Pirates captain.
With Happy Jele having left the club, Jose Riveiro will look for someone to fill in his very large shoes ahead of the new season.
According to The Citizen, Thabang Monare, Thembinkosi Lorch, Olisa Ndah, Ben Motshwari and Ofori would make for suitable team captains.
The Daily Sun quoted Motale - who captained the Buccaneers to the African Champions Cup glory - saying:

"If I have to be honest, I am not a big fan of goalkeeper captains. But now Ofori can lead Pirates. He has the experience and he's an international player. I have seen him communicating with players and also shouting (on the pitch). A captain needs to be someone vocal is the right man for me."
Motale also added that, while he was not surprised that the other "Magents" left the club, he wished that chairman Irvin Khoza could have convinced Jele to stay.
Meanwhile, Ofori is expected to be part of Ghana's 2022 FIFA World Cup squad, making him likely the only player in the DStv Premiership to make it to the tournament.
