Jones has endured a torrid spell during his 11-year stay at Old Trafford, with recurring injuries taking a huge toll on his form during the period.
According to the Daily Mail, the English defender could manage just five appearances across all competitions last season.
The publication adds that the centre-back could not link up with the rest of the United squad for their pre-season tour to improve his fitness ahead of the new campaign.

Reports now suggest that Rooney is exploring the option of snapping up Jones from Old Trafford to offer him an escape route to the Major League Soccer.
The Sun claims the Man United icon is considering bringing Jones DC United to help him in his dream to get the club out of the bottom of the East Conference.
Jones has a year remaining on his current contract at the Theatre of Dreams, and United would only demand a nominal fee for the out-of-favour defender.
Meanwhile, Rooney is also said to be keen on a move for Jesse Lingard, who is currently a free agent after Man United released him.
