  • Rashford aimed a mighty dig at Manchester City by claiming Liverpool have ‘more history’
  • The Manchester United forward insists Liverpool are more of rivals to the Red Devils because of their rich history
  • Manchester City have been the most successful club in England over the last decade, winning an impressive six Premier League titles under three different managers

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford boldly took a dig at local rivals Manchester City after claiming Liverpool are the Red Devils’ biggest rivals because they have history.

Rashford did an interview with UNINTERRUPTED where he risked the wrath of Man City fans with the bold sentiments.

Last season, Manchester City joined United as one of the few Premier League clubs who successfully defended their title after beating Liverpool to top stop in the last day of the season.

Despite City’s exploits in the last decade or so, 24-year-old Rashford, who was born and bred in Manchester, insists Liverpool are the bigger rivals because of the Anfield club’s history.

Asked which club he disliked, Rashford said "Yeah, Liverpool. I don't like Liverpool. City. Liverpool have history, so it's a bit more bitter.”

"But with City, it's like you don't like them, but you don't have a massive reason not to like them. You just grow up, and it's two Manchester sides. One wears light blue; one wears red."

United have a long-standing bitter rivalry with Liverpool, although it is Jurgen Klopp’s side that has triumphed in recent seasons.

Notably, in terms of silverware, Liverpool have won the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Premier League and Champions League since the last time United won a trophy (2017).

The last time United won the Premier League was in 2013, when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge at the club.

Meanwhile, United are looking good in preseason and this was evident once again in the 4-1 win over Melbourne Victory on Friday, July 15.

Rashford got in on the act in the second half as he slotted in his side’s third in the 78th minute after some brilliant play from Eric Bailly to take the game completely away from their Australian opponents.

United face Crystal Palace in their next preseason game on Tuesday.
