  • Ten Hag praised his side for the speed and precision up front after the win against Liverpool
  • The manager however refused to get carried away, as he also noted his side made mistakes
  • The Red Devils practically secured victory in Bangkok in the first half after going 3-0 up, with Pellistri adding another in the second half

Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag refused to get carried away by the emphatic victory over Liverpool in Bangkok on Tuesday, July 12.

The Red Devils completely outclassed the 2020 Premier League title winners as they ran riot in the first half with three goals.

Goals from Jadon Sancho, Fred and Anthony Martial were enough to take the game away from Liverpool in the first half, with substitute Facundo Pellistri Rebollo completing a fluttering 4-0 scoreline in Ten Hag’s very first game in charge.

Despite the seemingly impressive performance from United, it was kind to note that Jurgen Klopp did not start his best XI for the game.

Making his first remarks after managing United’s first game, Ten Hag was happy with the score, but still noted that his side made ‘a lot of mistakes’.

‘I’m satisfied today,’ Ten Hag told MUTV.
‘It was a team with a great spirit and we know we are just getting started. We made some mistakes in the press, we conceded some chances, but we created a lot.’
‘It will take a lot of time. I have seen a lot of mistakes. Liverpool played three teams, they were not at their strongest. We will not overestimate this result.
‘But still, I have seen some really good things. A lot of speed and creativity up front.’

What next for United?

There is no time for United to celebrate too much as they have another game, this time against Australian side Melbourne Victory, on Friday, July 15.

This will be followed by a game against Crystal Palace four days later.

Fans single out Bailly as stand out performer

Elsewhere, Manchester United fans singled out Erik Bailly as the stand-out performer in the 4-0 win over Liverpool.

Bailly was heavily involved in his side’s fourth goal as he made a blistering run from defense to throw the Liverpool players off.

His part in Pellistri’s goal earned him plaudits online, with a section of fans urging Ten Hag to start him consistently.
