The La Liga club has had a £55m agreement with the English Premier League side, Manchester United for the sale of the midfielder, although the move is largely dependent on the former Ajax star.
According to Daily Mail, Barcelona have now told Frankie de Jong to take a huge pay cut on his massive £25m-a-year wages if he is to remain with the club next season.

Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag wants the 25-year-old midfielder desperately at Old Trafford next season as he wants to rebuild his team around the Dutch international.
Chelsea are also reported to be interested in Frankie de Jong, who they hope to persuade to join the Blues with Champions League football next season.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Barcelona president Joan Laporta said that Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong is not for sale despite rumours of a departure to the Premier League.
De Jong "is a Barca player and unless we have a need or interest in selling him, we don't want to sell him," Laporta said as the club unveiled new signing Franck Kessie.
De Jong, 25, has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and a reunion with former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, who is preparing for his first season at Old Trafford.
