Arsenal are desperate to add another midfielder to their squad this summer and are planning to re-sign Ismael Bennacer from AC Milan.

Mikel Arteta has identified Bennacer who has been one of the standout players for the Serie A champions as an alternative for their main target, Youri Tielemans.

The Gunners have now tabled a first bid of £34m for the Algerian midfielder whose current deal with AC Milan expires in 2024 Football Talk reports.

AC Milan are not keen on selling Bennacer to Arsenal after losing Ivorian midfielder, Frank Kessie to Spanish giants, Barcelona this summer as they fear they will be depleted in midfield.

Bennacer signed with Arsenal in 2015, however, he left the club in 2017 to join Empoli without ever playing for the Gunners at the senior level.

Arsenal urged to sign £55m Milinkovic-Savic

Meanwhile, Arsenal has been encouraged to sign Serbian midfielder, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio ahead of Youri Tielemans.

The Gunners have seen a bid of £47 million for Milinkovic-Savic turned down by the Serie A club already but former Arsenal man Paul Merson has told the club to prioritize a move for the midfielder The Nation reports.
