Kenya Record Champions Gor Mahia Part Ways With Andreas Spier As Kakamega Homeboyz Sack Entire Technical Bench
- Gor Mahia have officially parted ways with German head coach Andreas Spier after six months in charge
- Sirkal have since announced that they are looking for a new coach as they aim to reclaim the league title next season
- At Kakamega Homeboyz, former head coach Bernard Mwalala has denied claims that he was sacked by the club
Gor Mahia have today confirmed they have mutually parted ways with head coach Andreas Spier. Spier's contract lapsed at the end of last month, and the two parties have opted not to renew their arrangement.
Spier was drafted in to replace the sacked Mark Harrison in February. He led the record champions to a third-place finish as the record champions missed out on the title for the second season in a row.
A statement from the club said,
We can confirm that we have mutually parted ways with head coach Andreas Spiers. His contract ended, and we are now in the market for a new coach. We wish him well.
Citizen Digital reports that the German tactician is a holder of a UEFA Pro Licence.

Bernard Mwalala refutes claims he was sacked by Kakamega Homeboyz
At the same time, Kakamega Homeboyz owner Cleophas 'Toto' Shimanyula has taken the drastic action of sending the entire technical bench led by head coach Bernard Mwalala packing.
Mwalala led Homeboyz to a second-place finish where they missed the league title on goal difference to eventual champions Tusker.
He has, however, refuted claims that he was sacked. Mwalala claims that he informed the club owner that he was planning on quitting his role, as Mozzart Sports reports.
I want to assume that he has been misquoted by the media because there is no such thing as firing. I was not fired but parted ways with Kakamega Homeboyz on different terms, which I cannot disclose because of my professionalism. Furthermore, my contract was coming to an end.

The tactician then wished the club all the best in its future endeavours.
