FootballPremier Soccer League Chairman Irvin Khoza Announces Carling Knockout Cup to Replace Telkom Knockout
- Premier Soccer League chairman Irvin Khoza today unveiled the Carling Knockout Cup, which will replace the Telkom Knockout
- The latter was last held in 2019 when Mamelodi Sundowns won it by defeating Maritzburg United in the final
- This comes just days after the PSL announced that the National First Division would become known as the Motsepe Foundation Cup
The Premier Soccer League will have another cup competition added for the 2022/23 season.
Chairman Irvin Khoza announced the Carling Knockout Cup is set to be held during the months of November and December. The tournament replaces the Telkom Knockout, which was last held in 2019, won by Mamelodi Sundowns after defeating Maritzburg United 2-1 in the final. This competition was not conducted in 2020 after the Covid-19 pandemic upended the global sports calendar, and was abolished last season.
According to iDiskiTimes, Khoza said:
“Today, I’m happy to announce a new sponsor, partner Carling Black Label,” he said on Tuesday morning. There is a gap in our calendar, the Telkom used to be played between October and December. So we tried to find space for our new competition.
