In shocking but ultimately unsurprising news, Swallows FC president Panyaza Lesufi has resigned as the president of Swallows FC.
Lesufi, Gauteng's MEC for education since 2014, was elected as the chairperson of the province's ANC branch last weekend. Stepping down will allow him to concentrate on these two high offices without being distracted by the responsibilities at the club.
Lesufi tweeted:
"With my new responsibilities, today, painfully so, I had to resign my position as President of @Moroka_Swallows. I wish the team well. Don’t follow me follow the birds"

According to Soccer Laduma, Lesufi joined a consortium of passionate Moroka Swallows fans that acquired the status of Maccabi FC in the National First Division back in 2019. They then renamed the club Swallows FC.
They were crowned as the winners of the 2019/20 GladAfrica Championship, gaining promotion to the DStv Premiership at the first time of asking. The team barely escaped relegation last season, though, having to win the PSL Play-Off Tournament involving them, the University of Pretoria and Cape Town All Stars.
