Former Ghana Goalie ‘Warns’ Inaki Williams, Nketiah and Other Foreign born Stars Ahead of Nationality Switches

• Adam Kwarasey has offered his advice to footballers of Ghanaian descent who want to switch their allegiance to the West African country

Retired Black Stars goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey has cautioned soon-to-be Ghana internationals ahead of their change of nationalities.

Kwarasey held dual citizenship, Norway and Ghana, but opted to represent the latter in 2011 and went on to feature in 24 games for the Black Stars.

Just like Kwarasey, a number of players in the diaspora are angling toward a change of nationality.

And according to reports, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been in talks with a host of Europe-born Ghanaians on the back of Ghana's qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Key among the raft of players include Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi, Spain-based brothers, Inaki and Nico Williams and Tariq Lamptey.

The aforementioned players are on the cusp of completing the necessary paperwork to represent Ghana at the senior level, per the reports.

But Kwarasey has waded into the discussion and offered his advice to Tariq Lamptey and his ilk.

“They need to come for the right reason I’ll say. I know they probably want to experience the World Cup but I hope they come because they want to represent Ghana and not because they were not selected by another country," he told Joy News.

"I think that’s number one – they need to be there because they want to play their hearts out for Ghana. Number two is hard because it’s been a while since I have been around, so I don’t really know how things are done in camp, but adjust quickly and do your best basically.”

GFA to announce nationality switches of foreign-born stars soon

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the head coach of the Ghana senior national football team, Otto Addo, has disclosed that the nationality switches of at least two Europe-born players will be complete next week.

Several Europe-born Ghanaians have been in talks with the Football Association over switching allegiance to represent the Black Stars.

Notable among them are Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi, Tariq Lamptey of Brighton and Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah.
