  • Englishman Howard Webb is widely acclaimed as one of the greatest Premier League referees
  • Webb took charge of 296 Premier League matches during his 11-year career that culminated in him refereeing the 2010 World Cup final
  • However, his illustrious career was not short of controversy as he was often accused of favouring Man United during matches

A former Premier League referee has addressed claims that he was fond of favouring Manchester United in key decisions whenever he officiated matches involving them.

Howard Webb was often on the receiving end from rival fans for appearing to lean towards the Red Devils.

So rife the claims were that former Liverpool star Ryan Babel took to Twitter back in 2011 to suggest that Webb was actually a Man United fan.

At the time, Sportsbible reports, Babel shared a photoshopped photo of Webb donning a United shirt, with the caption:

"And they call him one of the best referees? That's a joke. SMH [shake my head]."

Howard Webb addresses Man United bias claims

Webb has now come out to address the allegations, denying emphatically being biased during his refereeing days.

The Englishman went on to insist that he "never shared a bed with Sir Alex Ferguson" despite the jibes he received.

In his autobiography, the 50-year-old revealed that he is actually a Rotherham fan and not a Red Devils supporter as many insinuated.

“Let’s get something straight, once and for all. Contrary to what you might have seen on the internet, I never shared a bed with Sir Alex Ferguson," Webb opened up.

“There is no statue of me outside Old Trafford. My kids are not called Rio, Wayne and Cristiano. There is no Red Devil tattoo inked on my left b******. The only United I have ever supported - hand on heart - is of the Rotherham variety.
“And that’s the whole truth and nothing but the truth," he added.

Ronaldo, Georgina enjoy night out together

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez spared some time off their children to enjoy a night out together.

The power couple is said to have danced the night away at El Lio nightclub and cabaret.

Photos of the two from the date showed them close together and could hardly get their hands off each other.
