The South African Football Association (SAFA) has apologised to members of the media for the ugly scenes that unfolded on Friday.
Members of the media were verbally abused and manhandled by SAFA’s national executive committee (NEC) members at the press conference before the national elective congress.
SAFA president Danny Jordaan and CEO Tebogo Motlanthe have now apologised for the incident, an incident that the SA Football Journalists Association (SAJFA) condemned, Times LIVE reported.
Problems began when Danny Jordaan was asked about when he decided he needed a third term to fulfil his plans. He responded that he did not make the decision but was nominated. He then invited NEC members to comment on the question which led to the attack on the media. NEC member Tankiso Modipa went off at journalists.

“It’s always unfair for you as the media to ask questions that are direct and personal to our president. It’s our president — we decide. You are not even in football, you are just a journalist, you must deal with the journalists,” he said.
The press conference was then brought to an abrupt end, but the altercation continued between journalists and NEC members outside the conference room.
eNCA journalist Hloni Mtimkulu was also manhandled by SAFA members as she tried to film the altercation between journalists and the NEC members.
