Super Eagles Legend Sunday Oliseh Delivers Blockbuster Comments About Striker Rashidi Yekini

Former Super Eagles midfielder Sunday Oliseh has stated that no other Nigerian striker can come close to Rashidi Yekini when it comes to goal scoring.

Yekini who passed away on May 4, 2012, at the age of 48 remains Nigeria’s all-time record goalscorer having 37 goals in 62 matches for Nigeria’s national team.

The late legend played for Nigeria’s senior team between 1984 and 1998 and Oliseh joined the team in 1993 before hanging his international boots in 2002, Transfermkt reports.

The pair played together for five years and won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations together in 1994 and then played at the FIFA World Cup the same year.

They combined together in spectacular fashion to score goals, with Yekini finishing off in style. While reviewing his book Audacity to Refuse during a special podcast on YouTube channel ATHLST hosted by Matthew Edafe famously known as Mr Elegbete, Oliseh said:

“He made the art of assist so easy. Because he makes very very good runs; very smart runs – because he was ahead of his time.

“Most people don’t know about, but Rashidi doesn’t enter too much into the offside position, because of his pre-running.

“Strikers run like this, Yekini runs like this and I drop it there. He was already ahead of his time and his finishings are second to none.

“No other Nigerian striker can come close. He was one of the misunderstood superstars in our lifetime.”

Oliseh speaks on Mikel Obi’s playing style

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh has stated that he would rather play Wilfred Ndidi in the defensive midfield position instead of former Chelsea star Mikel Obi.

The former Juventus midfielder reiterated that he remains blunt when it comes to saying things and said Mikel was not an offensive midfielder.

Oliseh who last played for Belgian side Genk finally explained some certain qualities a midfielder must possess.
